IN response to the article in the paper (LET January 11) about Kathleen and Jim Hindley of Darwen being harassed by youths in the area.

I feel for them as I know what it is like. Two years ago myself and my wife moved from Yorkshire into the Queen Street area of Darwen.

It seemed fine until we had been there for about six months then the trouble started.

Youths were kicking balls at windows, stones were thrown and the back gate was kicked in.

Police were called on numerous occasions but nothing stopped it.

It got to the point where this group were even following us round town.

My wife even had things thrown at her in the town.

In the end we finally gave up and left. The area where we are now is so peaceful and quiet.

We have been here now for two years and have no problems.

We will never go back.

In Darwen the youths just seem to cause trouble all the time and it's time the police got more tougher with them.

How people can live there I don't know because it was terrible for us our lives were made hell.

Perhaps the couple in question should try and get some of the other residents to back them up and form their own watch on the area.

Darwen will never change unless people start doing something.

Name and address supplied.

LIVING HELL: The writer of the letter, left, says they also suffered harrassment from youths, similar to that which Kathleen an Jim Hindley have had to put up with
