HOUSEHOLDERS whose property has been damaged in recent gales have been warned to be on their guard against dodgy repair workers.
The council's consumer watchdogs are urging residents to be aware that they could be targeted by rogue traders knocking on doors to offer their services.
Anyone who needs work doing should remember the following advice:
Do not be forced into making a quick decision on the doorstep
Get three quotes from reputable companies
The best recommendation is a personal one from someone who has had work done
Fix a price and be specific about what is to be done
Get everything in writing, including company details, price and work to be done
Pay be credit card if possible for all jobs of more than £100. This can give extra protection.
