RESIDENTS who have objected to yellow lines in front of their Tyldesley homes may have won their battle.

But for those on the opposite side of the road, restrictions will be brought in if Wigan Council decides to apply the order.

Recommendations have been made to introduce 8am to 6pm no waiting orders in front of 315-341 Sale Lane, but that similar plans for nos 18-42 should be abandoned.

One objector claimed that at 18-42 residents had suffered from vandalism and theft from vehicles parked off road, and being forced to park their cars out of sight would give rise to substantial problems and inconvenience. Another said if the restrictions were imposed the council should take into account the drop in value of his home when calculating the new council tax.

One resident facing wrote to say there were no objections to the proposal and suggested a starting time of 7am and extension to Saturday. Questions were raised about people using the wide pathway for indiscriminate parking, which could be made worse by the restrictions.

Stephan Bell, of the council's engineering services department, assured the residents that the restrictions will apply to the full width of the highway, including the pavement, and vehicles parked on the footpath will be targeted by wardens and could be prosecuted.
