THE final phase of a campaign to clean up the town came to an end on Monday with a chance for residents to air their views about the project.

Officers from Bury Council's environmental services department have been sprucing up the Milltown Street area of Radcliffe since November.

Consultation was carried out with residents who were given a questionnaire and asked for their views and suggestions as to how the scheme would run and which areas in particular needed attention.

Throughout the campaign, council departments worked together and offered advice to residents on many issues, including the disposal of bulky household items free of charge by the council.

And on Monday a drop-in session was held at the Community Safety Partnership Caravan to allow residents to speak to some of the officers involved, comment on the scheme and provide suggestions for future projects.

During the campaign evidence was collected against people failing to dispose of waste appropriately and legal action is being prepared with a view to prosecution.

Councillor Mike Connolly, Bury Council's executive member for environment and transport, said: "Bury Council is promoting a cleaner, greener, safer environment for everyone to enjoy and this campaign has improved the cleanliness of the area.

"In further pursuit of this we will continue to engage communities and take action against those who fly-tip waste and spoil our environment."

The council has recently prosecuted two residents in separate fly-tipping cases in other parts of Radcliffe.
