THE funeral is taking place on Thursday of a former councillor and pillar of the community.

Mr Ken Colley, of Market Street, Stoneclough, died at the age of 77 after suffering a heart attack at his home on January 13.

He devoted much of his life to the people of Kearsley, becoming a councillor in the 1960s and was a teacher at Kearsley West Primary School for more than 20 years.

He played football into his 50s for the Old Farnworthians and was also vice-chairman of Kearsley and Ringley Conservative Club.

He is survived by his 67-year-old wife Joyce, two sons Simon and Howard, and four grandchildren Louise, Kieran, Kaitlin and Emily.

The funeral is in Prestolee, and the family have asked people to send donations to the Coronary Care Unit at the Royal Bolton Hospital, in lieu of flowers.
