YEARS ago I wanted to move to Astley, but that's before it became an overspill area for the city.

Like many other places its desirability was eroded for me as the greenery disappeared. Now I'm sorry to learn that mindless louts are giving grief on an estate there.

A resident of Esthwaite Drive for 20 years tells me that for the past four years life has been made a misery by yobs throwing half bricks at windows, garden hopping and kicking garage doors.

He claims he daren't close the curtains at night, that the family has to maintain a constant vigil and is on tenterhooks waiting for trouble to start.

In the last attack a bevelled glass window in his porch was shattered.

Appeals to the police and councillors for help stop the unruly 10 to 16 year olds have made not the slightest bit of difference.

He has now decided to write to the chief constable and see his local MP and councillors about the disrespectful dimwits. I hope they can help.

It must be hell being tormented to the point that you want to leave a home you've loved for many years.

All I can say is that I would gather evidence on film, keep a diary of events, and hand them over to the police in the hope that the perpetrators of grief get taken to court and have ASBOS (anti social behaviour orders) placed on them to keep them out of the area.

Then I suppose they'll just move on to another.

There have always been kids who create a bit of a nuisance but there's a big difference between that and causing havoc.
