DUE to county call-ups and injuries Sedgley went to Winnington without nine first choice starters, but in what was an excellent and very entertaining game, the away team showed what great strength in depth they have.

Indeed, but for some strange and puzzling refereeing decisions Park could and should have won.

Jonathan Dauncey opened the scoring with a powerful pick up and drive at the base of the scrum.

However, the home side soon replied with a converted try to make the score 7-5.

The Sedgley defence was as steady as a rock and it was rewarded with Sean Tates try just before half time, 7-10.

The second half was an open and exciting affair, both teams close to scoring on numerous occasions.

For once Sedgley's tackling let them down and Winnington were able to score in front of the post and complete the scoring at 14-10.

Sedgley dominated the last quarter and seemed to score a perfectly good try only for the referee to disallow it for a forward pass.

A tough call from 30 yards behind the play!

This incident did not detract from the overall team performance and it is difficult to single out any player for special praise.

However, Luke Woolley's magnificent second half try saving tackle will stay in the memory for a long time.
