ON reading (LET January 17) of Cookson and Clegg Ltd, and their parent company in Chorley, not securing an ongoing contact to supply our military with clothing, of which they have apparently done since the end of World War II, as a certain TV character would say: "I don't believe it."

Surely our esteemed MP, Rt Hon Jack Straw and PM Tony Blair, can persuade Defence Minister Geoff Hoon and Ministry and Defence colleagues to seriously reconsider their decision to contract our soldiers clothing to an inexperienced Northern Ireland firm who will subcontract to China.

After all, they were both very good at persuading the country we should forcibly liberate Iraq.

It's enough to make this old socialist vote Conservative.
