A BETTER future is around the corner for Pimhole after plans to revamp its scrapyards were approved.

Requests for a new access road were first made in the early 1990s, following concerns about traffic and the safety of St Thomass CE Primary pupils.

At a meeting of Bury's planning control committee on Tuesday, councillors voted in favour of plans for a new access route to businesses.

The scheme is part of the Pimhole Action Plan, which has been allocated £244,300 from Bury East's single regeneration budget.

A "spine road" will be built to serve the site, complete with a proper access point in Hurst Street.

Junkyards will be screened from homes by fences, and grants are to be provided for the 11 breaking businesses operating in the area to improve their facilities.
