The year is only weeks old and already we have a contender for film of the year.

Set in 1940s Northern India and in beautiful scenary Kisna is the big-budget bi-linigual effort by acclaimed directer Subhash Ghai.

Kisna (Vivek Oberoi) meets a young girl named Katherine (Antonia Bernath) whom he sets about returning to the British High Commission in Dehli. She, after all is the daughter of the British High Commissioner of the time and her dissapearance could have dire consequences.

Along the way the two become almost dependent on each other and a bond develops between the rural villager and the aristrocrat. As their relationship develops Kisna remembers he is engaged to be married to Luxmi a local Indian girl played by newcomer Isha Sharvani.

Whilst the relationship between the two is the main centre-piece of the movie, supporting performances from the likes of Om Puri and Amrish Puri give the film much needed depth.

The music by AR Rahman didn't get the best response but that didn't stop it from going straght to number one in the Indian charts.

KISNA Stars: Vivek Oberoi, Antonia Bernath, Isha Sharwani, Polly Adams and is Directed by:Subhash Ghai with music by A.R Rahman.
