RAMSBOTTOM prospect Helen Bowden has been selected for the Greater Manchester County Under-13 Hockey squad at the age of only ten!

The St Joseph's RC Primary School pupil worked her way through four gruelling selection weekends, along with 240 other hopefuls, when the selection process began last September and discovered she'd made the cut last week.

Helen was first spotted by selectors when playing for Bury Jaguars in a tournament at the Commonwealth Games Hockey Centre at Belle Vue last year, and has the honour of being the only primary school pupil in the squad.

She has been with the Jaguars for four years and joins her sister Catherine, who is in the Under-16 squad and two other club members who have been selected for the Under-14s; 13-year-old Katy Jackson of Bury Grammar School and 14-year-old Jennifer Croasdale, who attends Boltons Canon Slade School.

Bury Jaguars train every Friday evening on Castlebrook High School's all-weather surface from 4.30pm to 7.30pm and welcome new members from 6 7 years of age and upwards.
