ATHERTON Colls registered their first goalless draw in 18 months against sixth from top of the league Trafford.

Trafford had the majority of the early possession and new goal-keeper Ian Martin did well saving a fierce shot from David Holt.

Soon afterwards Scott Weir missed a good chance for the visitors. Dave Conlan made a superb break from defence and with only the keeper to beat James Parkinson shot over the bar.

Colls continued to force the pace and debutant Wayne Dyson hit the woodwork with a superb header with the Trafford defence totally exposed.

On the balance of play a draw was probably a fair result but it was a much improved performance by Colls and manager Alan Lord will certainly be heartened by his side keeping a clean sheet.
