DANNY Gabbidon has issued a 'come and get me' plea to his former boss Mark Hughes as he eyes a lucrative move to the Premier League.

The Cardiff City defender, who has been strongly linked with a switch to Blackburn Rovers in the past, is desperate to test himself in the top flight of English football sooner rather than later.

And potential suitors have been alerted to the fact he could be available for a knock down fee this summer as Cardiff attempt to ease crippling debts of £30 million.

Sources in Wales claim Hughes is ready to test the Bluebirds' resolve with a cheeky bid in the region of £1.5 million for the 25-year-old - half the fee Cardiff were demanding for him in the January transfer window.

The Rovers boss could well be in the market for a new defender after taking the decision to release Craig Short and Nissa Johansson recently, which leaves him light on cover for Ryan Nelsen and Andy Todd.

Gabbidon would certainly jump at the chance of a move to Rovers after it was Hughes who gave him his first senior cap during his time as the manager of Wales.

A striker remains the Blackburn boss's top priority but if there's any money left in his summer budget then Gabbidon could well emerge as a leading target.

Speaking of the possibility of joining his former Cardiff team-mate, Robert Earnshaw, in the Premiership next season, Gabbidon said: "It would be nice to be playing against him, maybe next season or the season after. Watch this space.

"No-one knows what's happening with the finances at Cardiff, nobody knows who's coming or going.

"The next couple of weeks should make things clearer."
