GLEN Smith inspired Manxman to Eddleston Cup victory and with it a Blackburn Combination league and cup double.

The tricky wide man scored one, made another and generally ran the show against a Pleasington side who showed just what they were capable of.

Despite the full length of the table separating the two sides, Pleasington made life difficult for the newly crowned Division Two champions -- and only an injury time winner from Scott Kelly prevented extra time.

Manxman started well and skipper Paul Egan forced Chris Todd in to a fine save in the opening minute.

And they were ahead within 10 minutes when Michael Hunter miscontrolled on the edge of his area and Smith snapped up the loose ball to race through to score.

Shaun Watson should have done better when he side-footed wide from close range after good work from Smith and Kamel Elsetesi.

But Manxman failed to make the most of their domination which was largely down to stubborn defending. And in Chris McGrath, Pleasington had an attacking force who gave the champions plenty to think about.

The tall winger twice breached the Manxman rearguard early in the half but with no end result. And it was the same outcome when Paul Read failed to capitalise on a mistake by defender Alan Scotting.

However, it was Smith who was the game's star player and four times in the space of five minutes he mesmerised his marker down the left to whip in dangerous crosses -- one of which led to Ryan Wales testing the keeper with a firmly struck shot.

Manxman nearly doubled their lead when Mick Angland split the Pleasington defence with a fine through ball but Watson crashed a shot against the bar.

But Manxman were made to pay for their catelogue of misses when Pleasington equalised in their next attack. Hunter atoned for his earlier mistake when his deep free kick was nodded back across goal by Danny Miller and McGrath scored with a clever overhead kick.

Pleasington nearly took a shock lead when Kirt Russell saved superbly to deny Miller..

Normal service appeared to be resumed when Elsetesi eventually scored after Todd had saved his initial effort and Watson's follow up.

However, Manxman again had Russell to thank for keeping out efforts from McGrath, Tony Foster and Mark Orrell-Dobson just before the break.

Pleasington were lucky not to give away a penalty when Angland's surging run was ended by an apparent trip by Hunter in the box.

But with 10 minutes remaining, they drew level for a second time when Miller showed a cool head to fire home at the far post.

The game appeared to be heading for extra time when Smith conjured up one last piece of magic to set Carl Scott free down the left and the player/manager's low cross was forced home at close range by Kelly.
