I AM trying to find anyone who remembers my father, L/Cpl Ronald Stevenson, of the 3rd Battalion, Royal Tank Regiment, and who can help in any way with my research into his war history.

I believe he joined up via the Territorials.

He was captured in Greece on April 28, 1941 and spent time in PoW camps at Corinth and Salonika, before being taken by rail to Stalag XV111A (Wolfsberg, Austria), where he spent the rest of the war.

From there he was sent out on Arbeitskommandoes on a farm or farms in Graz and/or the Trieben/Hohentauern area.

His Landwirtschaft number was 236/L.

Before the war he played cricket for Read in the Ribblesdale League and Accrington in the Lancashire League.

In one of his letters home he said he'd met "a chap from Haslingden, who plays in the Lancashire League, called Hibbert and he's Joe Dobson's nephew."

He also mentioned meeting "a lad from Padiham."

He was involved with cricket and football in XV111A and also played bridge. He also spent several periods of time in the camp hospital for treatment.

Official records list him as being at Stalag 344 (Lamsdorf) prior to release, though this may be an error.

After the war he had to travel (I think) to Liverpool for medical checks concerning his disability pension, so others locally may have travelled with him.

I'd be grateful to hear from anyone with any information, and they can contact meon 01282 775483.

I have Stalag XV111A and 236/L photos I am willing to share.

ANN STEVENSON (Miss), Whalley Road, Read.
