FORMER Lancaster Town Clerk Dr Don Waddell has been awarded an honorary Fellowship at St Martin's College.
He is only the second winner of the coveted status - joining the Rt Rev Alan Chesters, former Bishop of Blackburn and chairman of St Martin's governing body.
The award recognises Dr Waddell's contribution to the development of the college over more than 40 years.
He played a key role in the founding of St Martin's when he was Town Clerk in 1962, putting forward the redundant King's Own Royal Regiment Depot at Bowerham as the potential campus.
Dr Waddell has also been a member of the governing body at St Martin's for more than 40 years, including a time as chairman.
He is pictured, above, with his wife Barbara after being presented with the honour at a special reception held at the College last week.
Mr Waddell says: "I'm very appreciative of the honour done to me by this award. It's been a privilege and a pleasure to serve St Martin's."
