I AM astonished by the letter from Brian Yates on the subject of the traffic problems between Heysham and Lancaster.

Is he really suggesting that all residents of Heysham, Morecambe, Overton and other places who need to travel to the hospital, university of motorway should move and live in Lancaster?

We moved to Heysham because our jobs were in Heysham, which seemed a sensible decision. But health problems over the last six months have meant visiting the Royal Lancaster Infirmary for treatment twice a week.

To be sure of being on time, we have to allow an hour for the journey. Public transport is not convenient; we're almost a mile from the nearest bus stop and after my treatment I couldn't travel by bus anyway.

But I am sure Mr Yates will have a solution- perhaps that, to be eligible for treatment at the RNl, patients have to live that side of the river!

M A Mant, Heysham.
