YOBS behind a dangerous paint bomb craze have been warned they could blind or seriously injure one of their victims.

The move comes after two explosions left people at a house in Pine Street, Nelson, fearing their home would catch fire.

The "bomb" smashed a front window and covered the house in purple paint.

But police said the dangerous devices -- made up of paint, thinners and fireworks inside milk bottles -- could have seriously harmed or blinded a passer-by.

Yobs had filled two milk bottles with the cocktail and then set them alight and left them to explode at midnight on Tuesday.

The victims, 17-year-old Stevie-Lee Taylor, who is pregnant, and her boyfriend Adam Hargreaves, were left with a huge clean-up operation but said they felt relieved their terrace house did not catch fire.

Firefighters were called and police said they were treating the incident as criminal damage.

Sgt John Fryer blasted the "stupid" actions of those responsible and said it was fortunate no one was hurt.

He said: "There was not a great deal of paint but there's flying glass involved and it's potentially dangerous and could injure someone.

"It's a stupid and dangerous thing to do. Flying glass could seriously hurt or blind someone. If you start a firework in a bottle of paint and paint thinners and it explodes you could get caught yourself.

"Fortunately at midnight there were few people about.

"We are investigating it."

Student Stevie-Lee said: "We were in bed and got woken up by two large bangs.

"I thought it was the window being put through, but when I looked outside the window I could smell petrol. Soon there were lots of police and fire engines.

"It smashed a window and paint has gone all over the floor and window. It was just covered with purple paint.

"We were lucky. It could have gone through and set the house on fire. I'm really annoyed. I would not do that to someone. It's sick really."

Sgt Fryer said the incident was the latest in a long line of anti-social behaviour on the street.
