A 25p lottery ticket resulted in a £1,000 win for Whitefield woman Mrs Jean Winterbottom.

After buying the ticket at her local newsagents in Beech Avenue, Mrs Winterbottoms number came up first in the Bury Metro Lottery competition.

lPRESTWICH and Whitefield Round Table ensured Mrs Florrie Dickinson and her daughter Audrey enjoyed a shopping trip to remember when they granted her wish. Mrs Dickinson (71) applied to the Tablers Wish List to go shopping in a Rolls Royce. A car promptly turned up to take her to Prestwich Co-op and the store also gave her a free trolley full of shopping.

lA GROUP of Whitefield youngsters were described as road safety experts by the police. The former pupils of St Michaels RC Junior School won the final of the Greater Manchester County Road Safety Quiz, beating 68 other schools in the competition.

lBURY Council approved an application to extend Heaton Park Working Men's Club for a games room and committee room. The plan was passed on condition the windows were double glazed with obscure glass and adequate sound-proofing was provided.

lWHITEFIELD man Mr Hanan Lehman (49) was appointed manager of the Manchester branch of Bank Hapoalim BM, one of Israel's leading banks. Mr Lehman previously worked in the bank's head office in Tel Aviv.
