SMALL local charities and their volunteer chartered accountants will not be faced with unaffordable costs due to new professional training requirements.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICA) says voluntary work by members should be enhanced following the introduction of revised ethical guidelines on competence and performance.
The ICA's new Continuing Professional Development (CPD) scheme is intended to ensure that chartered accountants keep up to date with relevant knowledge and maintain their skills.
All members will be asked to make an annual declaration of CPD compliance, and every year a sample of members will be asked to show how they have kept up to date.
Jonathan Jones, the ICA's senior post qualification manager, said it didn't have to involve attending training courses or paying fees to professional trainers where that was not appropriate.
"CPD is part of the relationship between the member and the Institute and should not have any detrimental effect on the voluntary organisation," he explained.
