PUPIL singing sensations from a Whitefield school have recorded their own CD, inspired by a popular chart album.

Students from Elms Bank School on Ripon Avenue have named their CD, Now! That's what I call Elms Bank which features recent chart songs.

All 150 pupils from the secondary school got involved with making the album.

A company called Sonicworks sent information to the school and other schools in the area about making their own CD.

Tracks on the album were either sung by the whole school or different year groups, with a few students singing solos.

Elms Bank School is a special school for students with learning disabilities and has recently attained specialist art college status.

Mrs Rogers, music co-ordinator for the school, said: "There aren't many schools that get this status. We achieved this status in July and we are the third special school in the UK to do so.

"Everyone had a great time making the CD! All the staff joined in too and recorded a track. The pupils loved making the CD and they were desperate to hear it when it was finished.

"They loved hearing themselves when the album was played back. Some of the tracks sounded very good!"

The students wanted a pop feel to the title and based it on the well known Now! Thats what I call music series.

Mrs Rogers added: "The students recorded the album in a day. An engineer from Sonicworks came to the school and recorded the songs on a laptop."

The tracks on the album were selected by the students based on songs they liked to sing and will be distributed amongst students at the school.
