THERE are at least 8.3 million people living in the UK with a partial or total hearing impairment.

Lipreading teachers can help hearing impaired people in many ways. As a hearing aid user with acquired deafness who has attended lipreading classes, I found them of great benefit in regaining my confidence.

Through the classes I learnt new tactics for coping in difficult situations, information about useful organisations and, of course, my lipreading improved. I also found I was not alone and made new friends.

We are looking for mature people who have a warm, caring and professional approach, speak clearly, are prepared to learn about the practical and psychological problems of hearing impaired people and can communicate with them. Students who are eligible will receive some financial support.
