ONE man has been arrested after two cars collided in Leigh on Sunday night.
A police officer driving along the East Lancashire Road at around 9pm became concerned with the driving of an E registered Nova, which had also been reported stolen.
The officer activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to make the vehicle stop. The driver did not and instead pulled off the road onto a residential estate and then onto Newton Road, Leigh. The Nova was then in collision with a Ford Fiesta that was travelling in the opposite direction. The 39-year-old driver of the Fiesta was treated for whiplash at the scene.
The officer was temporarily suspended from driving duties, but following a review of the pursuit was reinstated.
A 19-year-old Leigh man was arrest nearby on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and was detained at Wigan Hospital overnight as a precaution.
