A FATHER-of-two in Darwen has scooped an academic award and had his work nominated for publication.

David Oddie, 44, has won £200 and been awarded the Tim Curtis and Partnership Award from the University of Central Lancashire for his outstanding progress at Runshaw Adult College.

The married prison officer has been studying part-time for a Certificate in Education for two years as part of his job requirement to train other officers.

He undertook an academic research project about how to intervene with learners to help them improve.

The Tim Curtis and Partnership Award, which has been running for 23 years, is a tribute to UCLan’s former deputy director Tim Curtis.
