BLACKBURN Rovers have thrown their weight behind a 12-year-old girl’s campaign to raise money in memory of her dad.

Caitlin Jones of Somerset Avenue, Darwen, is spearheading the Show Your Knees For Nigel day on February 12 - the second anniversary of her father’s death from lung cancer.

The idea is that people donate £1 to the East Lancashire Hospice to wear Nigel’s favourite item of clothing for the day.

Already schools across Blackburn with Darwen, market traders and several companies have joined up to take part, and now Caitlin’s mum Tracy is hoping the influence of Premiership footballers will encourage more on board.

She said: “Sam and the players were wonderful with Caitlin.

“I hope that young lads will now be encouraged to get involved in the appeal.

“My only worry is that it will snow on the day and it will be too cold for shorts.

“But I’m sure people will get round it by wearing them over tracksuit bottoms.”
