A FAMOUS Burnley painting is on display in London for two months.
The Modern Pre-Raphaelite, by JW Waterhouse, is in an exhibition at London’s Royal Academy until September 13.
The display, which was opened by Sir Tim Rice, is the first major showing of Waterhouse’s works since his death in 1917.
The Modern Pre-Raphaelite is owned by Burnley Council and is on loan from the Towneley Hall museum.
A second Waterhouse painting, The Unwelcome Companion, is due to be exhibited in Canada.
Coun Charles Bullas, the council’s culture executive member, said: “It's a great honour that one of Towneley's paintings is being displayed at the Royal Academy.”
The Unwelcome Companion was donated in 1951 and is usually on display at Towneley Hall.
