AN investment of £600,000 will enable patients in Todmorden to receive hospital services closer to home.

Currently patients would have to travel to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary or Calderdale Royal Hospital for procedures involving x-rays, ophthamology and audiology But technology and equipment is now being installed at the health centre in Rose Street, Todmorden, by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

The first patients to use the facilities, which also include diagnostics for obstetrics and gynaecology and outpatient services for paediatric, surgical and medical divisions, will begin to arrive next month.

The new services will be available to patients in Todmorden and the Upper Calder Valley following referral by their GP.

Trust medical director Yvette Oade said: "This is a very exciting development for us being able to bring our services out of hospital and close to people homes in Todmorden.

A new £10million health centre, home to the Todmorden Group Practice, only opened its doors in December.
