A NINE-year-old girl who lost the fingers on her left hand in a lawn mower accident was treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of Dancing on Ice with Olympic champions Torvill and Dean.

Annabel Harvey swapped her school books for a pair of ice skates when she given the surprise, organised by her mum, Sue, and ITV show This Morning.

The Blackburn school pupil was welcomed to the London studios by last year’s Dancing on Ice winner Suzanne Shaw before meeting this year’s contestants, including former EastEnders actress Gemma Bissix and ex Emmerdale actress Roxanne Pallett.

After getting her hair and makeup done by the show’s team she met her heroes Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean and was handed signed ice skating boots and pink costume.

Annabel, who attends Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School and comes from Colne, said: “It was amazing when Torvill and Dean gave me the skates. They asked me about ice skating. I started learning to skate two months ago. I want to be a professional skater. Torvill and Dean have inspired me.

“It felt amazing, I had no idea. I wish it never ended.”

Sue, 44, from Colne, wrote to the show about Annabel’s condition and their charity work for Reach – The Association for Children with Hand or Arm Deficiency – since her accident five years ago.

She said: “It was just a joy seeing how much attention she received and she handled really well, I would have been phased by it all.”
