Police closed a busy Bolton road today because of “hazardous driving conditions” due to black ice.
The eastbound carriageways of De Havilland Way next to the Reebok Stadium at Horwich, which links Junction Six of the M61 and Chorley New Road, were closed and traffic was diverted via the A6.
Closures were put into place at about 10am so Bolton Council workmen could re-grit the road. The road was re-opened shortly afterwards.
In November, salt for gritting reaching 20 feet high was piled at the Highways Agency depot in De Havilland Way, on the westerly side of the roundabout.
