JORDAN Barnes, the son of ex-England and Liverpool legend John Barnes, has joined Leigh Genesis.
Barnes is a 20-year-old midfielder, an out and out winger who has previously played for Chester City. He is currently at university in Leeds.
Genesis manager Lee Merricks said: "It's great to have a player like Jordan on board with us.
βHe is exciting to watch and will do well in the Unibond League. The great thing about this division is that it's a hotbed of young footballing talent from where so many players have gone onto progress into the higher leagues.
We fully expect that Jordan and many other members of this squad will do so in the future, but for now they're all keen to leave their mark on this league.β
Meanwhile making a return to Leigh is former youth and reserve team goalkeeper Danny Morton.
Now 24, Morton played in the club's 2002 youth team and won the North West Youth Alliance League and Trophy. Since then he has had spells with Daisy Hill and Warrington Town before re-joining Leigh.
Merricks added: "Danny's applied himself well in training and works hard with Dean Porter. He hasn't played yet this season, but is gaining in fitness and confidence with us. He will no doubt add to the competition for the number one jersey as we now have three great keepers on our books.β
