THOUSANDS of flower enthusiasts have decended on a huge new festival.

The event, at Towneley Hall in Burnley is expected to attract more than 6,000 visitors in the coming days.

Called “Noel, a Festival of Flowers” the whole of Towneley Hall has been decorated with blooms for the occasion.

On the first day 10 coach-loads of people visited and today 12 coaches are booked.

Towneley Hall curator Susan Bourne said it is the first event of its kind in the town for 37 years.

She said flower societies from across the North West have helped decorate each room in the building with a different theme.

She said: “It has been fantastic. The hall looks great and every room is truly fabulous.”

The event is organised by Towneley Hall and the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies and includes the opportunity for people to take inspiration and learn techniques to create their own Christmas displays.

There is also a specialist retail section available for the purchase of festival-linked items. Tickets cost £8 per person with all profits going to Pendleside Hospice.
