SCHOOLS across Rossendale have been ’penny pinching’ for a local charity.
This year’s six-week fundraising push has now come to an end smashing the amount raised in 2008.
Sam Morris, Rossendale Hospice fundraising manager, said: “We are delighted that this years’ challenge was a huge success, generating an overwhelming £4,229.16.
“Although our Penny Pinching appeal is primarily a fundrasing initiative, it is also an opportunity to increase awareness about the hospice and its services to the wider community “And we are truly grateful to everyone who participated and to our volunteers.”
Twenty seven schools took part in the campaign, which involved donating loose change.
Trophies were awarded to the schools which raised the most money.
Awards went to the Flying Start Nursery, which raised £116.23, Alder Grange High School which raised £179.95 and Britannia County Primary which raised a very impressive £404.66.
Next year’s challenge takes place on September 14.
