A CELEBRATING Clarets fan ripped a grille from a car and went sledging down the road on it after his team’s victory over Chelsea, a court heard.

Burnley Magistrates heard how drunken window cleaner Marc Jordan Beckett, 27, got off a coach in the early hours of the morning when he attacked and vandalised two cars on a garage forecourt, clocking up more than £1,000 damage.

He then slid down the road on the grille as well as hurling it twice at a pub window.

The defendant, a father of four, was on a community order at the time following an assault.

Beckett has been given a three month curfew, banning him from leaving his Harold Avenue, Burnley, home between 7pm and 7am from Sunday to Wednesday and 9pm until 7am Thursday to Saturday.

The defendant, of Harold Avenue, Burnley, admitted two counts of damage.

As well as the curfew, Beckett was fined £220, with £750 compensation, £50 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

The justices also revoked the community order.

The chairman asked him: “What on earth were you doing?

“It was probably the best night of Burnley’s recent football performances and you came home and started wrecking cars.”

Andrew Robinson, prosecuting, told the court in the early hours of November 13, a woman living near the Angel Inn in Burnley, was woken up at 3.20am by a minibus pulling up.

The majority of people left but three remained and she saw one of them go to Lookers garage and pull off the entire front grille of a vehicle.

He then threw it at the pub window, but it did not break.

Mr Robinson said the witness then saw the defendant sliding down the road on the grille, as if he was snow sledging.

He then hurled it at the window again.
