A MAN who damaged a police cell toilet was being watched because of previous suicide worries, a court was told.

Mark Sumner, 35, who has almost 100 previous convictions, also interfered with a vehicle and did not turn up to court when he should have.

He was arrested and had spent two nights in custody, where he was said to have reflected on his life, Burnley magistrates heard.

The defendant, of Selby Street, Nelson, admitted damage, vehicle interference and two counts of failing to surrender.

He was given a 12 month supervision order by the bench, who said he showed a complete disregard for any authority.

The magistratess added they wanted the order to address his drugs problems.

The court was told the defendant had 94 previous convictions.

Richard Taylor, defending, said Sumner’s offending appeared to be considerably slowing down.
