A SHOPLIFTER who made a run for it when a relative stole two bottles of whisky from a store has been fined by Rossendale magistrates.
Joseph and Carmel Roche were in Bacup Co-op when she picked up two bottles of spirits and they left, the court heard.
The pair were challenged by staff and she put down the bottles and they fled, said prosecutor Andrew Robinson.
Joseph Roche, 20, of Tong Lane, Bacup, admitted theft and was given a 12-month community order with supervision.
Janet Sime, defending, said she had reviewed CCTV footage of the incident and it was clear that her client did not distance himself from Carmel when the bottles were stolen.
βIt is fair to say he did not know that she was going in there to steal,β she added.
The court heard Carmel Roche had been dealt with by magistrates for the theft charge on another occasion.
