ALMOST 1,000 people were injured at work in Lancashire last year.

Statistics based on cases passed on to the Health and Safety Executive by Lancashire County Council, Blackburn with Darwen Council and Blackpool Council show 979 injuries.

The figure, revealed in a report by the Chart-ered Society of Physio-therapy (CSP), is the highest in the North West.

Lesley Mercer, head of employment relations and union services at CSP, said: “There is still an unreasonably high rate of workers being seriously, and even fatally, injured while doing their jobs.

“Employers need to ensure workplace accidents are prevented and that all employees are protected.”
