SCORES of jobs could be at risk in Lancashire by banking giants Lloyds TSB’s takeover of the Halifax Bank of Scotland group.

That is the view of workers’ union Unite, which has vowed to fight any plans for compulsory redundancies.

Bosses at LTSB have already spoken of plans to streamline the new company created by the merger. And with many town centres in Lancashire including branches of Lloyds TSB, Halifax and Bank of Scotland there are fears that some could close.

Unite deputy general secretary Graham Goddard said: “With an economic downturn biting, thousands of staff at both banks will be very worried about the consequences of a merger.

“Unite is calling for urgent talks at the highest level with the banks.

“We will not accept any compulsory redundancies as a result of this merger.
