POLICE have issued a warning after conmen got into the house of an elderly woman in the Whitehall area of Darwen.

Men posing as water board workers knocked on the door of an 88-year-old woman on Duxbury Street, saying there had been a leak and they had to turn off her stop tap.

She let one man into her kitchen, but found another man in the living room.

She later found the drawers in her upstairs bedroom had been pulled out.

Community Beat Manager PC Phil Hambley said: “Anyone who is concerned about the identity of a person at their door should contact the police on Blackburn on 0845 1 25 35 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
