RIBBLE Valley Council is looking for residents to join its standards committee.
The body is responsible for assessing any com-plaints about borough and parish councillors and deciding what action, if any, to take.
It also advises the council on ethical standards, monitors the effectiveness of the code of conduct and oversees, promotes and supports high standards of behaviour among elected members. New legislation has given the standards committees across the country extra powers and the committee chairman, plus 25 per cent of its members, must now be independent.
The council wants two independent and two parish council members for its standards committee.
Further details are available from the council’s legal services manager, Diane Rice, on 01200 414418.
