THESE are the two men wanted in connection with a £30,000 raid on a Royal Mail van laden with expensive jewellery.

Police the vehicle was targeted in King William Street, Blackburn, where it was due to make a delivery to Humberstones jewellers.

When the driver went into the Mall shopping centre at 10.15am on Wednesday September 10, two suspects were spotted ‘acting suspiciously’ near the van by a CCTV operator.

One of the suspects appeared to tamper with the lock while the other reached into the back of the van and removed a plastic crate, containing individually wrapped jewellery, police said.

The haul included a £1,000 gents’ Ebel watch, a diamond pendant, a £1,350 white gold chain and 10 white gold and platinum rings – one of which was worth over £17,000.

All items, apart from the watch and a £270 wedding band, were marked with the hallmark ‘AD’.

The jewellery had been due to be collected by customers.

PC Cath Ramsden, of Blackburn police, said: “We have informed all customers about their stolen property and inquiries to identify the people responsible continue.

“I urge anyone with any information or who saw anything suspicious in the area last Wednesday to contact us.

“I am also keen to speak to anyone who has been offered the jewellery for sale.”

One of the men was white, stocky build with short light brown cropped hair.

He was wearing a dark coloured top and dark coloured tracksuit pants.

The other was wearing a dark baseball cap and a dark jacket with what appeared to be a light coloured shirt underneath.

Humberstones, which also has a store in Barrowford, was founded in 1947 in Nelson.
