AN initiative for the homeless is hitting high schools to raise awareness of the issue.
The Homeless Prevention Action Group will hold interactive workshops on youth homelessness and how to access support and advice to prevent it.
The workshops, a joint initiative between SafeSpace Homeless Project and the Young People’s Service in Pendle, will highlight different types of homelessness such as street homelessness and ‘sofa surfing’, and difficulties faced by young people trying to access appropriate accommodation.
SafeSpaces provide accom-odation and support to homeless young people in Pendle and receives around 200 referrals a year, with around 75 per cent aged 16-18years, and around 90 per cent under the age of 21.
With the support of Pendle Borough Council housing needs department, the joint venture has allowed workshops to be developed and delivered in schools throughout the borough.
Any Pendle school interested in free workshops should contact Claire Bennett on 07809503761 or email claire@pendleaction.org.uk
