REHEARSALS for a ground-breaking open-air theatre production dealing with knife-crime are about to start.

More than 30 people attended an audition for the outdoor production of Romeo and Juliet, which, it is hoped, will raise awareness about the perils of knife crime.

Rehearsals for the play, which is being staged by Say Two Productions in Alkincoats Park, Colne, will take place on Saturday.

Councillor Ann Kerrigan said: “I am extremely pleased and excited by the response. All those who attended the audition are looking forward to the production.

“We will now be hold rehearsals next week.”

Say Two will also be visiting the high schools throughout Pendle, with their play workshop "

A production spokesman said: “That the tale of the star-crossed lovers — and rival factions the Montagues and Capulets — is one of the first examples of gang culture and would help youngsters understand the issue. It is important to remember that auditions are open to everyone, both young and old.”

Additional actors or dancers wanting to audition or take part should speak to Christine Appleby on 01257 453956.

Budding actors can either ask for more information about the performance or put their names down for the try-outs, which will take place at Park High School, Colne, this Saturday between 2pm and 5pm.
