A FOUR-year-old boy saved his mum’s life by phoning for an ambulance after finding her collapsed unconscious.

The ambulance service said that Adnan Mohammed Patel was a ‘true little hero’ who had shown great courage in a frightening situation.

And his dad, Faruq, said that he was ‘extremely proud’.

His wife, Nargus, and Adnan were watching television at their home in Chorlton Street, Blackburn, when she was taken ill.

The 35-year-old has suffered blackouts for the past four years since her mother and brother died in the space of a year.

Adnan, who has just started at St Silas Primary School, was sat with her and noticed she was not moving, her jaw was locked and she was breathing heavily.

He tried to wake her, but on getting no response, rang his dad, who works as a mechanic.

When he could not get hold of Faruq, who was praying, Adnan, who had been told by his parents what to do in an emergency, dialled 999 to ask for an ambulance.

He stayed on the telephone to the operator until paramedics arrived.

Mrs Patel said: “When I woke up there were two paramedics over me and I burst into tears when they told me what Adnan had done.

“They even said that he was reluctant to open the front door to them because he was taught never to do it, but the lady on the phone asked him to.

“He’d tried to ring his dad but he was praying at the time and didn’t answer.”

Mrs Patel was taken by ambulance to the Royal Blackburn Hospital for tests, and released at midnight on Monday.

She added: “Adnan was comforting me in the ambulance and at the hospital before my husband turned up.

“He hates to see me in distress - he is a real sweetie.

“Later on I started to think about what could have happened because I had left the fire on, but Adnan is a very sensible boy and wouldn’t have been silly.

“I am very proud of him and what he managed to do. He is very active and clever.

“He used to being leaflets home from Seven Trees Nursery School about what to do in an emergency. We had told him too and he has obviously remembered.

“I think it’s very important that every child learns what to do in these situations.

“It might not be their mother or father - it could be grandparents or neighbours or anyone.”

Faruq Patel, 38, said: “I’m very proud of him and very, very grateful that he has saved his mum’s life.

“The doctors have said that some of her blackouts could be life-threatening.

“She could have fallen badly, or in a dangerous place.

“Every parent should make sure their children knows how to call for the emergency services.”

A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said that they would be giving Adnan a certificate for his bravery.

He added: “It’s amazing to believe that the caller is only four years old.

“He showed extreme courage in a situation that would have been very frightening for him.

“It is encouraging to hear that someone so young knows what to do in a genuine emergency as the Trust receives lots of hoax calls from children.

“Adnan is a true little hero and we will be issuing him with certificate to commend his actions and for being so brave.”
