A BUILDING trade giant has launched a winding-up move against a Burnley property developer.

Halstead Street-based Stannard Homes faces a compulsory winding-up petition, issued on behalf of Wolseley UK Ltd, which has been lodged at Birmingham District Registry.

The petition has been displayed in legal journal the London Gazette Lawyers representing Stannard, or any other interested party, have until the end of today to either support, or oppose, the petition.

If the legal action proceeds, the case will be heard before a judge in Birmingham on Monday.

The action is being taken through Leamington Spa-based Wolseley’s legal department, based in Ripon, North Yorks.

Stannard’s headquarters, just yards from Burnley’s Manchester Road railway station and ambulance depot, was closed yesterday.

Mechanics at nearby Abbott’s Garage said they had not seen any activity at the location for the past couple of weeks.

A series of telephone numbers listed for Stannard on its website, and elsewhere, were not answered yesterday when the Lancashire Telegraph attempted to contact the firm.

The firm was established in 1994, according to its website, and its work centres on conservation and restoration schemes, alongside some new developments.

Recently the company has been involved in the conversion of The Spinnings Mill, off Riverside Road, Summerseat, and developments in Todmordern and Littleborough.

A spokesman for Wolseley UK, a nationwide distributor of building supplies and plumbing and heating products, refused to comment on the petition last night.
