POLICE have revealed that tests had found nine out of 11 off- licences in Accrington are refusing to sell alcohol to youngsters.
Accrington police revealed the figures after targeting premises with a 14-year-old undercover volunteer.
Of 11 targeted, only two made sales to the under-age girl.
Sgt Ian Corbett said: “We have worked closely with our partner agencies to reduce incidents of young people purchasing alcohol. My plea to all licensed premises is, if in doubt, do not sell.”
Cashiers who made the sales were fined £80.
If premises fail again, they could lose their license. The sting was part of an on-going campaign in Hyndburn.
