A BLACKBURN man arrested in connection with an alleged threat to kill Gordon Brown appeared in court charged with terrorism offences.

Muhammad Ali Mumtaz Ahmad, 24, of Whalley Range, appeared before City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court via videolink from Belmarsh prison and was remanded in custody.

He is accused of possessing terrorist material such as camouflage clothes and plans for “urban combat”.

No bail application was made and he will appear before the same court on September 19.

Krenar Lusha, 29, of Moore Street, Derby, appeared before the same court yesterday also charged with terror offences.

Three other men, all from Blackburn, were arrested in the last four weeks in connection with the alleged threat.

Ishaq Kanmi, 22, of Cromwell Street, Audley Range, is charged with soliciting murder and being a member of al Qaida.

Abbas Iqbal, 23, of Percival Street, Whalley Range, is charged with owning terrorist material and spreading terrorist literature.

His brother Ilyas Iqbal, 21, also Percival Street, is accused of owning terrorist material and researching terror.
