DARWEN rider Felicity Coulthard was celebrating last night after winning a silver medal at the Paralympics.

The 23-year-old, competing at her first Games, finished second in the Grade II individual freestyle dressage event at the Hong Kong Olympic Equestrian Venue.

In the freestyle competition, the riders design their own test and set the movements to suitable music.

Coulthard, who has cerebral palsy, and her mount Roffelaar performed to “Fiddler on the Roof” and impressed the judges throughout to give her a final mark of 71.06.

“I’m very very happy,” said the Pendle Riding for the Disabled Association group member, who watched her team-mates notch up three golds and a silver in last night’s competition.

“I wasn’t necessarily expecting a score as good as that, as there were some errors, but I gave it my best effort.

"It was much cooler tonight, which made it much easier for me.”

The silver medal is an improvement on her last major championships where she landed a team bronze at the World Championships in 2007.
