THREE schoolmates from Darwen are taking part in a 6,500-mile rally to Mongolia for charity.

The team – Richard Kirkham, David Davies and Liam Fenton, all 23, who met at St Peter’s Primary School and went to Moorland High –- call themselves DARE (Darwen Amateur Rally Expedition).

They will depart from Hyde Park, London, next July and travel through countries such as Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan before reaching the Mongolian capital Ulaan Baatar.

Richard said: “None of us have any mechanical knowledge, but that just adds to the adventure.

“At night we will sleep either in the car or in tents. It’s crazy!”

The rules of the Mongol Rally stipulate they must do it in a car that has an engine less that one litre and must be less than 10 years old.

They need to raise at least £1,000 for a charity chosen by the organisers, and money for the car and petrol.

Anyone wishing to sponsor the team should call 07725 343252 or visit http://mongolrally09.theadventurists.com/dare.
