Major building work was just part and parcel of Blackburn town centre in the late Sixties and early Seventies.
This photo shows the town’s new shopping centre under development with the initial skeleton growing up. In the background you can make out the curved roof of the new market building and on the left you can see cars parked on the market rooftop car park.
Also back left you can see the Art Deco-style frontage of the Odeon Cinema on Penny Street - the cinema was demolished in 1974.
Top right you can just make out the sign on top of Whitbread’s town centre brewery.
