The summer holidays are here with schools across East Lancashire closing for their annual break.
This reminded us of years gone by when it was the tradition for every town in the area to have its own Wakes Week - a time when the mills would shut down, primarily to allow to essential maintenance.
For families in East Lancashire it was the signal to head to the coast with Blackpool a particular favourite.
Special trains would run from East Lancashire to holiday hotspots with thousands making the most of their precious week off.
Here we have some great photos of Wakes Week holidays of yesteryear. If you have a memory of a Wakes Weeks' holiday do get in touch. Email bygones@nqnw.co.uk or leave a comment.
